1/7/2025 0 Comments What is Om?At the end of class, we chant "Aum" (or "Om") three times—a simple yet profound practice that carries deep significance. Aum is considered the primordial sound, representing the vibration of the universe and the interconnectedness of all things.
Its three syllables (A-U-M) symbolize different aspects of existence: birth, life, and dissolution; waking, dreaming, and deep sleep; and the past, present, and future. When we chant Aum, we align ourselves with a sense of unity and presence, allowing the resonance to settle our minds and bodies before we close our practice. We chant it three times to honor these layers of meaning and to create a sense of completion and grounding. However, participating is always optional—simply listening and absorbing the vibrations can be just as powerful. If you'd like to join in, take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, slowly let the sound emerge. "Aaaaa" begins in the chest, "Uuuu" rolls through the throat, and "Mmmm" closes with a vibration through the lips, creating a sense of deep resonance. Whether you chant or listen, Aum is a gift—a moment to center, reflect, and carry the stillness forward.
